Braun-Elwert, 59, suffered a heart attack while on a climbing trip with Ms Clark, her husband Peter Davis and others, including cabinet ministers David Parker and Damien O'Connor in the Lake Tekapo region, NZPA reported.

Gary Moller comments:
While the circumstances of this tragic death have yet to be established, it is timely for us to review how aware we are of the risks of sudden death and how to pick up on the early life-saving signs.
There have been far too many deaths over the last decade or so of extremely fit athletes, dying suddenly in their 40's or 50's.
Things to be looking for (this is not an exhaustive list):
- Feeling "fluey"
- Congested chest
- Unusual breathlessness
- Indigestion
- Chest or shoulder pain
- Unusually tired
- Unusual changes in blood pressure and/or heart rate
- Blue lips, pale
- Cold sweat
The most valuable tool one can have in the home for the detection of heart problem is a wrist-type blood pressure and heart rate monitor.
Please read my articles here about heart disease.

Good on you using the story about the PM's friend to raise awareness about heart attacks. I hope it will save a life one day. My 84 year old father died last year of a heart attack and for several dies prior to his death he was very tired and breathless. Just going from the bedroom to the toilet ( across the hall) was a huge effort for him. So the warning signs you mention were definitely there with him too.
