Here is part of my reply to an inquiry about skin care for acne and pimples:
You may have noticed that people who constantly apply cleansers, antiseptics and other potions to their faces seem to have bad skin. It may be a chicken or egg question but I do not think these potions are beneficial over the long run and may end up irritating the skin and even encouraging resistant bugs.
Above all else, one must not touch the infected skin with fingers and, if the skin is touched, the hands must be washed right away using plain soap and water. The infection is easily and quickly spread if there is careless touching, scratching and picking.
I think the best thing to do is to gently wash the skin twice daily with just plain soap and nothing else. It may be beneficial to rinse the cleaned skin with a salt solution, patting the skin dry with a clean towel or napkin.
Applying moisturisers to infected skin may produce the perfect petri dish breeding ground for bugs. I think it is best to keep the skin dry and only use moisturisers once the skin is healed. But, by then, the need for moisturisers is gone!
The only moisturiser I use, if any, and recommend for others is melted coconut oil, lightly applied and gently dabbing off the excess. Nothing else.
