Marathoners put students on the road to wellness

Lorraine Moller watches students compete in a running game during her visit Monday to Shepherdstown (W.Va.) Elementary School.

By RICHARD F. BELISLE

Former Olympic marathoners Lorraine Moller and Michele Davis brought “A Running Start,” a pilot program that encourages children to exercise, to two Jefferson County elementary schools Monday.

The women were at Page Jackson Elementary in the morning and moved to Shepherdstown Elementary in the afternoon.

They presented their program to the Shepherdstown Middle School cross country team in the elementary school gym. It included outside games aimed at making running and exercising fun.

“Running is a natural human activity enjoyable for millions of people,” Moller told the students.
