Wellington's South Coast After a spectacular Storm Surge

Nothing left of the 4wd track.
If you are thinking of going for a bike ride or walk to Red Rocks on Wellington's South Coast, I suggest you leave it a few days.

The storm surge this morning has devastated the coastline.

I went for a bike ride a few hours ago down Long Gulley to Red Rocks and back up Happy Valley.

4wd trail goes round the headlands.
The 4wd road has been obliterated in places and the seas are still monstrous.

I was lucky at one spot where the waves got me and my bike, swamping me to my knees!

Stormy seas.
Yoiks, yonder!

The road from the seal colony - or what's left of it!
Stormy seas hindering my progress
 (Wellington City in the background).

Almost impassable - even for  4wd's.

Where's the road?  This is hard cycling!

WCC Works Dept cleaning up Owhiro Bay.  The waves
reached several properties across the road.
