How to make a child smarter

As parents we all want to raise healthy and intelligent children. When it comes to increasing their intelligence there is a lot of conflicting advice about what really is effective? Will giving your child fish oil really improve his or her intelligence? Does breast feeding a baby improve intelligence? What about what an expecting mother eats? Will reading to your child while playing Beethoven in the background improve intelligence? Will learning to play an instrument do the job?
Dr Paul Wood, a development specialist with a background in psychology, sent me the following research paper which answers these questions, in part - and as best as science can - with what is presently known. It is well worth the read. If you are not into ploughing through reams of research, go straight to page 34 which has a nice summary of what appears to have good evidence.

Incidentally, all of the children I have tested to date - of which there are now more than a few hundred - are seriously magnesium and zinc deficient. Its an epidemic that is not good for their brains (think hyperactivity, depression and really bad skin).

Looks like I am going to have to talk to my children!
