"I teach martial arts full time and compete for England at Tae Kwon Do and I have just had Knee Arthroscopy surgery. I was told it would take a further 4 weeks (total of 6 weeks) before I can start training properly again but there's certain gym exercises I can do to improve the muscle. Is there any foods or supplements you can recommend that will increase my chances of a successful recovery as the doctor seemed unsure as to how I would get on with kicking in the long term."

Please take great care of your knees which must serve you faithfully for the best part of 100 years.
If the knee hurts at all, or if there is any hint of joint swelling, then I would be inclined to avoid high risk activities for as long as it takes to be 100%. This does include TKD, or aspects of the sport including kicking. There are far too many ageing athletes, across the board, who are facing later years with crippling arthritis, constant pain and the prospect of ongoing surgeries.
I know of one person, now in his early 50's who is a near cripple from cumulative knee damage from TKD. He can barely walk, even with knee braces.
You can aid recovery with a suitable glucosamine and chondroitin supplement such as JF 4500, take Reparen as long as there is any healing to be done and ensure your diet is rich with protein, vitamins and minerals. A Super Smoothie daily is a good start.
Sometimes life is such that hard decisions must be made to close one door and open another. Perhaps it is time to call it quits with the competitive side of your sport and to do something different that may be equally challenging and exciting while being gentler on the knees? The choices are nearly endless and includes continuing your teaching in the sport you know so well.
Whatever you decide; love your knees and they will serve you faithfully for many, many years.

the problem with a lot of marshall arts is kicking and punching without any resistance ie a punch bag to stop the joint snapping to its limit progressively damages the joints.
places like gyms use punch bags to absorb the impact and stop the joint snapping to its full extent with full force.
