Tuesday, April 08, 2014
Sportshub interview with Lorraine Moller about running and Lydiard Coaching Courses
topped with an Olympic Marathon bronze medal in Barcelona 1992. Lorraine also talks about the Arthur Lydiard training principles, which she is in NZ to present. Lydiard’s coaching was central to her success and many other kiwi greats, Murray Halberg, Peter Snell, John Walker, Dick Quax, Dick Taylor and Rod Dixon, some of whom still hold New Zealand records.

Athletes 'have all they need' in NZ - Lorraine Moller

Former Olympic marathon medallist Lorraine Moller refuses to "believe this rubbish" that New Zealand sport needs more funding.
The newly inducted member of New Zealand Sport's Hall of Fame gets a little toey when she hears excuses of that ilk.
She has heard it all, including the complaint that "everyone else is on drugs and that somehow we are at a disadvantage".
"If I had bought into any of that, I would never have got what I got. People were saying the same thing 15 years ago."
Moller insists New Zealand athletics - and sport in general - has "everything we need".

TFS's Audio Interview w/ LORRAINE MOLLER (Part 1 of 2) - Female running pioneer and passionate Lydiard protégé
Episode 65 of The Final Sprint Podcast features the first installment in a two-part series of interviews with the legendary female running pioneer and Lydiard protégé LORRAINE MOLLER. (Note: The second and final part of the interview will be published tomorrow in Episode 66).I encourage you to listen to the podcast and to please share it with your readers and other contacts.
In today's portion of the interview, Lorraine talks about the link between her development as a runner and as a person, the stages of her career, being driven by that "pioneering kiwi spirit" , the metamorphosis of female athletics, her bond with iconic running coach Arthur Lydiard, misconceptions about his training philosophies, and why her basic training so seamlessly prepared her for the marathon. She also discusses the special meaning of her induction to the Colorado Running Hall of Fame, and her belief that running is a personal and spiritual journey has enabled her to develop the often under-appreciated, but yet crucial element to success in both running and in life: self-understanding and the mental framework of a champion.
The audio interview is also available at no charge in the iTunes Store.
Any and all feedback from you and/or your readers is greatly appreciated. Thanks again and please feel free to call and/or email me if there is anyway that I can assist you, your publication or organization.
Sincerely,
Adam Jacobs

Lorraine Moller - Hero's Journey
Lorraine Moller's Wings of Mercury
By Britta Kallevang
"Lorraine Moller is a hero. A modern day Greek goddess, Moller has embarked on many odysseys throughout her life. She’s a four-time Olympic marathoner—the only woman to complete each of the 20th century’s Olympic marathons for women—holder of the longest winning marathon streak ever, an undefeated masters runner, a mother, and a coach.
But that’s not the whole story. Moller is much, much more. The roles she fills and feats she’s accomplished are only that. Moller will not be fenced in by anything, not even her own legacy."
Sounds a bit over the top; but its still a good read for sports enthusiasts who are wondering "why?" (Gary)
