Why is Chromium needed when the Hair Tissue Analysis results show high chromium?

Please refer to the image left of a typical slow metaboliser profile of a person who is complaining of constant tiredness.  What you see is elevated Calcium, depressed magnesium, sodium and potassium. Iron and manganese are also low relative to calcium.  These are the signs of a person who is suffering from fatigue related ailments, including poor, unrefreshing sleep and lack of energy throughout the day.

Why do many women have osteopaenia or osteoporosis?

Modern eternal war is the perfect
business model.
The other "Eternal War" is the one
to enslave the bodies
of womanhood
One of the most frequent inquiries coming my way is from women mostly over 40 who have been told by their doctor that they have weak bones.

It is needless terrorism

Some arrive on my doorstep in tears after being told they have either osteopaenia or osteoporosis.  This is a very serious thing to drop on an otherwise healthy woman; especially when the only solutions offered condemn them to a life time of drugs, mega-doses of harmful synthetic vitamins and minerals (vitamin D and calcium) and constant worry that they may trip and break a bone.

In many cases this is irresponsible, alarmist rubbish!

If there is an osteoporosis epidemic, then where are the hospital wards full of women with broken bones?  There aren't.  Yes, there is osteoporosis and some women do unfortunately fall and break a hip; but there is not an epidemic of fractures.  If a woman has low bone density, as many may, this is actually a poor predictor of fracture risk (There are articles linked later in this article which explain this).  Being on heart medication is a better predictor of fracture risk than a Dexa Scan.

Did you know that "bone sparing" medication actually increases fracture risk after two years use!  Did you know that there are now more than 2,000 law suits pending in the New Jersey courts alone for osteonecrosis and hip fracture, allegedly caused by the use of Fosamax?  (Fosamax is just one of many kinds of "bone-sparing" drug of the bisphoshonate class).
https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=fosamax+law+suits&aq=f&oq=fosamax+law+suits&aqs=chrome.0.57j62.15154j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Hardly any woman over the age of 50 will not be declared anything less than being osteopaenic following a scan.  This is simply the way it works: It is a test that is based on dodgy science using a scaling system that almost guarantees a diagnosis of low bone density.

The motivation is purely for commercial gain: In my opinion:
  • The Dexa Scan is a high value service for the clinic that is quick and easy to operate.
  • It gives the "evidence" for justifying a woman sacrificing her body for the cause: The war on osteoporosis which includes subjecting oneself annually to yet another source of cancer-causing radiation consuming expensive patented vitamins and minerals which will actually accelerate bone loss, arthritis and fatigue!
  • And has them enroll in the clinic's profitable "bone strengthening" programme (A waste of money and effort if not combined with a proper drugs-free nutritional balancing programme).
  • It has them coming back for an annual screen (A captured population and ongoing profitability).
  • When this does not work, as it surely won't, then the clinic can put them on an even higher value "bone-sparing" drug like Fosamax which is guaranteed to destroy a woman's health, thus requiring even more high value drugs and medical procedures.
Screening programmes like these are a form of costly medical entrapment that has nothing to do with health.  In my informed opinion. Where's the published peer reviewed evidence of long term benefits such as improved life expectancy and improved quality of life?  I haven't found it yet.

Incidentally, the Dexa Scan is now being extended to measure body fat: Yet even more cancer-causing radiation.  As if there wasn't too much already! This is totally contradictory in terms of  good health practice.

Real health has been hijacked and distorted

for the purposes of commercial profit

A parallel health issue with equally dodgy motives and lack of credible evidence is the cholesterol lowering industry: http://blog.garymoller.com/2013/05/can-statin-cholesterol-lowering-drugs.html.  A further outrageous example of the hijacking of health for profit is the highly successful seasonal flu vaccine: http://blog.garymoller.com/2013/04/is-seasonal-flu-vaccine-actually.html and here: http://blog.garymoller.com/2013/02/the-flu-shot-dr-oz-is-getting-his-are.html

The osteoporosis industry reminds me of the Halliburton model for the "Business of War".  The next obvious move in the war on osteoporosis is to target men, similar to what the cosmetics industry has done after exhausting its supply of women for business growth.

Sex sells: Terror sells even better!

Sadly, I can't find convincing evidence of benefit from these drugs in terms of life expectancy or morbidity when adjusted for "all causes".

You will realise there is good cause to be cautious about any health matters in which Big Business has a controlling hand . You may also appreciate why I decided to separate myself from the "system" some years ago.

I am not winning any popularity contests for calling out aloud that the Emperor has no clothes but it is difficult to remain silent following the tearful visit from a healthy woman who has just been told she has a terrible disease that, in her case, may actually be an unsubstantiated  concoction of myth for commercial profit and she is given little in the way of treatment choice other than spending the rest of her life on harmful drugs.

The myth of osteoporosis exposed

About 15 years ago, when I was running a small rehabilitation clinic, a sales man tried to sell me a Dexa Scan machine which measures bone density.  His presentation was not about health promotion; but about the wonderful business model surrounding this highly expensive diagnostic machine.  It is a machine that strikes terror into the hearts of women.  It was guaranteed a money-printer according to the sales pitch!  Health was barely mentioned.

In my opinion, the osteoporosis business is deeply flawed.  It always has been.  I know what osteoporosis is.  Where is the epidemic?  Where are all the women snapping bone,s left right and center, due to weak bones?  Sure there are women out there with osteoporosis but there is nothing like the widespread epidemic being broadcast from on high. Is it real or is it a myth, manufactured by big business to terrorise women into undertaking highly expensive and therapies that actually destroy health?

I get very angry when a woman comes to me, in tears, after being told she has osteopaenia or osteoporosis.  In most cases, the diagnosis is wrong. It terrifies unnecessarily.  In my opinion.

Bilateral hip fracture associated with "bone-sparing"
medication use.
The xray-based bone density test that drives the osteoporosis industry is deeply and irreparably flawed.  It is irrelevant for the majority of women.  It is a poor predictor of fracture risk.  Better predictors are balance eyesight and the number of medications being taken.  Anti osteoporosis drugs increase fracture, heart failure, dementia and cancer risks - how about that for a kind of madness!  High bone density increases your breast cancer risk several fold!  This is no BS - this is based on published peer reviewed research.

"What is more concerning to women: breaking a bone (from which one can heal), or developing breast cancer? If it is the latter, a low BMD reading could be considered cause for celebration and not depression, fear and the continued ingestion of inappropriate medications or supplements, which is usually the case following a diagnosis of osteopenia or osteoporosis."

A question about Vitamin D and Calcium for bone strength

"Gary,
Last time you sent me a supply of Thompson's Vitamin D plus omega 3
fish oil, but I can't see that on your website. Is it lurking there?

I also have prescribed a daily 1250mg calcium carbonate tablet. I
also don't see that as a nice simple tablet on your site - and it
would probably be cheaper for me to ring my doctor for a repeatprescription ($12 plus prescription charge of about $3)."

Gary....
I have replaced the Thompsons Vitamin D with Nutra-Life Vitamin D which you can purchase here.  This is a fish oil based vitamin D supplement that is more or less the same as Thompsons and similarly well priced.

You should take from 2-4 capsules per day on the days you do not get midday sun on your legs
 and torso.

Calcium Carbonate
My sales of calcium supplements have plunged to almost zero over the last year and I am happy with this.  There has been some concern that calcium supplementation may contribute to calcification of the arteries.  I have always wondered why there does not seem to be a direct relationship between calcium intake and bone strenght.

Of all the forms of calcium found in the body, these do not include chalk - calcium carbonate (CaCO3).  For this reason alone, I would not add any more calcium carbonate into the diet than what is found naturally in our foods. It makes much better sense to add the form of calcium that are found naturally in the healthy body's trillion or so cells.  Chelated minerals, like calcium gluconate, force their way into the cells which I now regard as an unwise "therapy".The Active Elements supplies these in physiological amounts that do not overwhelm the body.

My Advice
I now think that the better approach to improving bone strength is as follows:

  • Concentrate on getting all of the fat soluble vitamins into your daily diet - A, D, E & K1/K2
  • Ensure your diet is rich in all the essential fatty acids - the fat reduced diet is a sure guarantee of osteoporosis (Fat soluble vitamins need fat in the diet, btw).
  • Ensure there is a dribble of quality protein in each meal through the day.
  • Get plenty of sun on your body (but no sunburn).
  • Exercise daily with some upper body exercise included (Gardening is wonderful).
Foods that are rich in the nutrients I am referring to include: Brocolli and spinach cooked in butter or coconut oil (Vitamin K1), blue vein cheese (Vitamin K2), Raw full cream milk or silver top milk as second choice (all the nutrients), Flax oil and cottage cheese (Not the fat reduced cheese) give the fatty acids and proteins, wheat germ oil (Vitamin E), cod liver oil (Vitamin A and Omega 3 oils).  Free range eggs (real free range ones) are a good source of the fat soluble vitamins.

Active Elements
You only need to supply the minerals your body is needing right now and no more.  This usually includes calcium; but in the forms that it is found in the cells.  You can assess your mineral needs by completing the Active Elements Assessment here.  Other trace elements, like boron and selenium are found in the foods recomended and in the Nutra Life vitamin D.

Sure, you will find a prescription chalk supplement from the doctor cheaper (If you ignore the huge tax payer subsidies via Pharmac!).  But I ask you if the prescription form of calcium has actually shown any noticeable benefit to your health in the time you have been taking it?

I now have almost 250 people who have completed the Active Elements Assessment.  This is a

service that has no tax payer subsidies.  It survives only on its merits of improving the health of the majority of participants.

How long do these natural therapies take to work?
Give this advice time, like a few years and then the rest of your life to show any improvement in
bone strength.  Bear in mind as well that bone density as measured by Bone Mineral Density (BMD) Scans can be most misleading, since it is not necessarily bone mineral that is the principal determinant of bone strength - It is the vitality of the living bone tissue itself which is not measured.  These tests tend to unfairly penalise people of a slight build and older people.  More about this in another article!
