Medical over diagnosis, over treatment, poor health outcomes, escalating healthcare costs - all for nothing! Watch the documentary.

When we head to the GP most of us assume "the doctor knows best". But the truth is, many of the scans, tests and procedures ordered by medical practitioners are wasteful, unnecessary and potentially harmful.
"What do you think would be the reaction of the average person in the street if they knew what you knew?
"Well, I think they'd be quite alarmed." Health Economist
Healthy people are needlessly being turned into patients with tests and scans leading to treatments which at best have no effect, and at worst, cause harm.
"The surgery doesn't seem to affect the outcome any more than if you did a pretend surgery." Leading Clinician
"Patients are receiving care that is sometimes ineffective and sometimes unsafe." Health Economist
And it's costing us a fortune:
"You know we're just wasting hundreds of millions of dollars sending people off for unnecessary tests and exposing them to unnecessary radiation." Health Researcher
In this special edition of Four Corners, guest reporter Dr Norman Swan reveals the real story behind the malaise in the Australian health system. A malaise driven by waste, rather than a lack of money.
"Increases in health care costs have been driven a little bit by (the) ageing of the population, a little bit by increases in the costs of technologies, but the largest drivers are over diagnosis and over treatment." Health Researcher
Focusing on four common health complaints - back pain, knee pain, chest pain and prostate testing - Dr Swan shows how the cost to patients and taxpayers is escalating. Analysis by Four Corners found billions of dollars being squandered and more than a hundred inappropriate tests and procedures receiving Medicare rebates.
"We're headed for a tsunami of over diagnosis." Health Researcher
And as one interviewee explains, part of the answer lies with the public:
"If people knew that health interventions, tests and treatments were not going to deliver benefit, I think they might make different choices." Head of medical oversight body

Conventional medicine is “the leading cause of death” in the United States

Something is wrong when regulatory agencies pretend that vitamins are dangerous, yet ignore published statistics showing that government-sanctioned medicine is the real hazard.

Is it time to scrap mammogram breast screening?

"We're told breast screening saves lives. But that is only one side of the picture.
It also results in some women being treated unnecessarily. That treatment could be breast removal or radiotherapy.
For every life saved by screening, more lives are potentially harmed.
So are New Zealand women being told the whole story?"

I've been saying this for years: "Breast mammograms are largely a waste of time, subjecting thousands of women to cancer-causing radiation and to unnecessary radical medical interventions, including mastectomy, radiation therapy and chemotherapy, due to overdiagnosis".

This view is based on careful reading of the growing body of evidence that these breast screening programmes do more harm than good.

Here is the link to some of the articles I have written.

The health experts often get it horribly wrong - and for good reasons!

Big business buying science and unduly influencing medicine has been going on for a very long time.
What can you believe nowadays?  Is most of what you are told that "is good for you, is safe for your children and highly effective" is actually a load of cobblers?

More evidence that statins are neither effective, nor safe for preventing heart disease

This is sensational news!

How statistical deception created the appearance that statins are safe and effective in primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease
David M Diamond1–3 and Uffe Ravnskov

  • We have provided a critical assessment of research on the reduction of cholesterol levels by statin treatment to reduce cardiovascular disease.
  •  Our opinion is that although statins are effective at reducing cholesterol levels, they have failed to substantially improve cardiovascular outcomes
  • We have described the deceptive approach statin advocates have deployed to create the appearance that cholesterol reduction results in an impressive reduction in cardiovascular disease outcomes through their use of a statistical tool called relative risk reduction (RRR), a method which amplifies the trivial beneficial effects of statins
  • We have also described how the directors of the clinical trials have succeeded in minimizing the significance of the numerous adverse effects of statin treatment.

Gary:
Never before have I seen a published research paper that so clearly accuses fellow doctors and researchers of deception, manipulating statistics and minimising risk in order to present a distorted and harmful version of the truth.  This is sensational news and how they ever got to publish their findings in an international scientific publication is beyond me.  Maybe the tide is turning?  About time, I say.

Statin Drugs do not improve health -

Statin drugs cause harm!

What this means is the Heart Foundation will have to throw out all their manuals ands completely rewrite their healthy heart guidelines.  Their lucrative Heart Tick is worthless.  Their advice about saturated fats such as avocado and coconut oil, let alone animal fats and eggs lacks credibility.

Total cholesterol levels between 4-6nmol/L are healthy and of no cardiovascular risk consequence.
Here are the official guidelines.  These guidelines are set by committees of experts, the majority of whom have financial ties with the statin industry.  I recommend you ignore anything below 6nmol (240mg/dl).

As cholesterol levels go progressively lower than 3nmol/L have increasingly poor health, more infections, cancers, confusion and dementia and lower life expectancy.
Level mg/dLLevel mmol/LInterpretation
< 200< 5.2Desirable level corresponding to lower risk for heart disease
200–2405.2–6.2Borderline high risk
> 240> 6.2High risk

In my opinion, which is increasingly being supported by reports such as this, is there are no health benefits from taking statins by anybody, other than possibly those at the extreme end of cardiovascular risk.

Even for those at the extreme of high cholesterol, greater health benefits are to be obtained from identifying and dealing with the root causes of heart disease, principally inflammation and the deposition of calcium into the soft tissues including the blood vessels.  Statins do not address either of these.

I wonder why this has not had any mention in the mainstream news?  Maybe its another one of those lies that is too big to fail?

The CDC's own research has found that the long denied vaccine-SIDS link is real

"VAERS received 29,747 reports after Hib vaccines; 5179 (17%) were serious, including 896 reports of deaths. Median age was 6 months (range 0-10.22 months). Sudden infant death syndrome was the stated cause of death in 384 (51%) of 749 death reports with autopsy/death certificate records. The most common nondeath serious AE categories were neurologic (80; 37%), other noninfectious (46; 22%) (comprising mainly constitutional signs and symptoms); and gastrointestinal (39; 18%) conditions.

No new safety concerns were identified after clinical review of reports of AEs that exceeded the data mining statistical threshold."

Remember that less than a few percent of adverse reactions ever get reported, so you can multiply the figures in the study above by at least a factor of 10.  So that means there were at least 9,000 infant deaths of which over 4,000 were SIDS.  Here in New Zealand it is next to impossible to get anything on an official database since the doctor, who most likely was responsible for the adverse event, is also the gate-keeper for filing reports.

Vaccines do cause harm.  This can not be denied.  The questions raised are these:

  • Do the theoretical benefits from vaccination outweigh the potential for harm?
  • Is it ethical to risk harm to an otherwise healthy child in order to prevent possible future harm?
  • When is the best time in a child's life for it to vaccinated, if it is to be done, rather than operating to a schedule that is convenient for the administrators, while oblivious to the needs of the child?
  • Is an infant's immune system geared up for multiple simultaneous assaults such as from the MMR vaccine?
  • Which vaccines are absolutely essential and which are not?
What is most astonishing about this report is the callous concluding statement:
"No new safety concerns were identified after clinical review of reports of AEs that exceeded the data mining statistical threshold."

By their own report, babies were maimed, some for life and many died as collateral damage to prevent a disease that was not present at around the time of administration.  While these injuries and deaths may not be "new" concerns to the researchers, surely this is still a major safety concern for all parents?

Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics Cipro, Avelox, And Levaquin Linked To Peripheral Neuropathy In First Large Epidemiologic Study

I have a client who is preparing to do an unsupported running race of the Grand Canyon.  In the medical advice given by the organiser's medical advisor, he recommends that competitors take one of the fluoroquinolone antibiotics to guard against infection.  My immediate reaction, upon reading this advice, was to consider the doctor mad, ill-informed or just plain brain-washed by Big Pharma!
I have written quite a few articles about the permanent, crippling damage done by these drugs to countless thousands of people.  Remember that less than 10% and more like 1% of all adverse drug reactions ever get reporterd!
In recent years case reports have linked Levaquin, Cipro, and Avelox with peripheral neuropathy, or serious nerve damage. As a result of the large number of cases of peripheral neuropathy in patients using Avelox, Cipro, and Levaquin being reported to the FDA, it issued this warning in August 2013: "FDA Drug Safety Communication: FDA requires label changes to warn of risk for possibly permanent nerve damage from antibacterial fluoroquinolone drugs taken by mouth or by injection".
My advice is to refuse to take them unless your life depends on it.  Ask for an alternative.  If you are competing in an event, or ging to a place where infection such as tummy bugs are common, then consult me about healthy alternatives.

Merck now faces thousands of law suits for alleged harm caused by Fosamax drug

The evidence is growing by the day that so-called bone-sparing drugs like Fosamax (a member of the bisphosphonate class of drugs), to treat osteoporosis, have absolutely no benefit for bone health, other than for people with bone cancer and it is encouraging that the US courts are beginning to agree.

Thousands of cases are now before the US courts for just one of these drugs alone; but there are several more, including Alendronate which is advertised by Jude Dobson on national television in New Zealand as a convention once a year infusion.

These drugs do nothing for bone health: they work by killing the cells in the bone that remodel and remove old bone. The end result is dead bone that will snap with the slightest provocation.   This is really bizarre if not outright barbaric: these drugs cause exactly the harm they claim to prevent!  The most common, including death of the jaw bone is femur fracture.  I am also aware of cases of fracture of the spine that has accelerated a few years after being prescribed these drugs.

Let me assure you that there are safe and healthy alternatives to these toxic and harmful drugs.  They should not be prescribed in New Zealand while there is obviously so much legal action happening in the US alleging harm.  Besides, it is no mystery why this harm is happening - we know how the drug causes the bone death - that's what it is intended to do - kill your bones!

My advice is this:  Don't take it!

Run for the clinic door if this drug is ever suggested.  If you, or a loved one, has been taking any of this class of drug, the healthiest thing you can do is to stop taking it immediately.  There are no side effects from sudden cessation of this class of drug, other than feeling better.

Contact an alternative health professional for advice about healthy things you can do for strong, healthy bones.

If you are not sure about what to do, you are welcome to contact me and I will do the best I can to assist you.

For more about this topic, please read the bulletin below from Tom Lamb Law and the links to other articles I have written.  If you think you may have been harmed by one of these drugs you might like to drop him a line to check what your rights and options are.  Tom is one of the Good Guys.

45,000 individual cases of fluoroquinolone toxicity have been reported to the FDA!

Is your doctor in it because it is her calling, or is she in it for the money?
"There is no doubt that fluoroquinolones are important medications that help many thousands of people each year, but the indiscriminate prescribing of these highly potent, "big gun" antibiotics for everyday minor infections such as sinusitis, sore throats, or bladder infections is unnecessary and medically negligent. Medical authorities have repeatedly denounced the overuse of FQs. In my 40+ years in pharmacovigilance, FQs surpass Vioxx and thalidomide in the degree of permanent harm done.

As of February 2014, approximately 45,000 individual cases of fluoroquinolone toxicity have been reported to the FDA. And, as studies have proven, the FDA receives reports of only 1%-5% of the actual numbers of adverse reactions that occur."

    Jay S. Cohen M.D.
    _____________________________

    Gary:
If you have been prescribed an antibiotic for a condition like sinusitis or a bladder infection and you notice that you are subsequently extremely tired and/or are suffering unexplained tendon, muscle and joint problems there is the possibility that you have been poisoned by your doctor!  Were you prescribed a fluoroquinolone?

I have written several articles about this class of antibiotics which have, in some cases, cause irreparable harm.  We need to keep getting the word out.  What on earth are doctors doing by continuing to prescribe these drugs so indiscriminately?

    Adverse effects (Wikidedia)[edit]

In general, fluoroquinolones are well tolerated, with most side-effects being mild to moderate.[16] On occasion, serious adverse effects occur.[17] Common side-effects include gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, as well as headache and insomnia.
The overall rate of adverse events in patients treated with fluoroquinolones is roughly similar to that seen in patients treated with other antibiotic classes.[18][19][20][21] A U.S. Centers for Disease Control study found patients treated with fluoroquinolones experienced adverse events severe enough to lead to an emergency department visit more frequently than those treated with cephalosporins or macrolides, but less frequently than those treated with penicillins, clindamycin, sulfonamides, or vancomycin.[22]
Post-marketing surveillance has revealed a variety of relatively rare but serious adverse effects that are associated with all members of the fluoroquinolone antibacterial class. Among these, tendon problems and exacerbation of the symptoms of the neurological disorder myasthenia gravis are the subject of "black box" warnings in the United States. The most severe form of tendonopathy associated with fluoroquinolone administration is tendon rupture, which in the great majority of cases involves the Achilles tendon. Younger people typically experience good recovery, but permanent disability is possible, and is more likely in older patients.[23] The overall frequency of fluoroquinolone-associated Achilles tendon rupture in patients treated with ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin is has been estimated at 17 per 100,000 treatments.[24][25] Risk is substantially elevated in the elderly and in those with recent exposure to topical or systemic corticosteroid therapy. Simultaneous use of corticosteroids is present in almost one-third of quinolone-associated tendon rupture.[26] Tendon damage may manifest during, as well as up to a year after fluoroquinolone therapy has been completed.[27]
FQs prolong the QT interval by blocking voltage-gated potassium channels.[28] Prolongation of the QT interval can lead to torsades de pointes, a life-threatening arrhythmia, but in practice this appears relatively uncommon in part because the most widely prescribed fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin) only minimally prolong the QT interval.[29]
Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea may occur in connection with the use of any antibacterial drug, especially those with a broad spectrum of activity such as clindamycin, cephalosporins, and fluoroquinolones. Fluoroquinoline treatment is associated with risk that is simlar to[30] or less [31][32] than that associated with broad spectrum cephalosporins. Fluoroquinoline administration may be associated with the acquisition and outgrowth of a particularly virulent Clostridiumstrain.[33]
The U.S. prescribing information contains a warning regarding uncommon cases of peripheral neuropathy, which can be permanent.[34] Other nervous system effects include insomnia, restlessness, and rarely, seizure, convulsions, and psychosis[35] Other rare and serious adverse events have been observed with varying degrees of evidence for causation.[36][37][38][39]
Events that may occur in acute overdose are rare, and include renal failure and seizure.[40] Susceptible groups of patients, such as children and the elderly, are at greater risk of adverse reactions during therapeutic use.[16][41][42]

Fluorine rears its ugly head yet again!

When reading the Wikipedia page for Quinolone you will note that the chemical compound for this potent drug contains fluorine, one of the most toxic substances to living creatures.  Fluorine is the same compound found in the nerve gas that President Assad has been using on his people.  It is a war crime to gas people with it but a health measure if you put in the water supply and medicines!

When you are considering the safety of medications before you take them, consider that less than 10% of all adverse drug reactions ever get reported (more like 1%).  So, if your doctor tells you the rate of harm is, say 1/1,000 my advice to you is to turn around and run for the door!  Seek healthy alternatives for your aliment.  There usually are - you just have to look for them.
